Options Breakeven Calculator
The options breakeven calculator finds the exact stock price at which your call or put option breaks even at expiration. Knowing your breakeven price before entering an options trade helps you assess whether the move needed is realistic given the stock's volatility and your time horizon. It is the first check any options trader should make.

How to use this calculator
- 1
Select call or put
Call options require the stock to rise above breakeven. Put options require it to fall below breakeven.
- 2
Enter the strike price
The option's strike price — the price at which you can buy or sell the stock.
- 3
Enter the premium
What you paid for the option, per share. The total cost = premium × 100 (per contract).
- 4
Read your breakeven price
This is the minimum stock price (for calls) or maximum (for puts) at expiration for the trade to be profitable.
Formula
Breakeven (Call) = Strike Price + Premium Paid
Breakeven (Put) = Strike Price − Premium PaidFor a call option, you profit when the stock is above the strike at expiry. But you also need to recover the premium you paid, so the breakeven is the strike plus the premium. For a put, you profit when the stock falls below the strike, and your breakeven is the strike minus the premium. Any stock price beyond breakeven generates profit.
Worked Example
Call option example: Strike: $150 | Premium: $5 Breakeven = $150 + $5 = $155 The stock must be at or above $155 at expiration for this trade to be profitable. Below $155, you lose part of the premium. Below $150 (out of the money), you lose the full $5 × 100 = $500 per contract. Put option example: Strike: $150 | Premium: $5 Breakeven = $150 − $5 = $145 The stock must fall to $145 or below for the put to be profitable at expiry.
